Arsenal's Croatian striker Eduardo Da Silva, who suffered a horrific leg break earlier this year, said doctors had given him the all-clear to return to action in August, Croatian sports daily Sportske Novosti reported on Friday.

The 25-year-old Brazilian-born Croatian has been recovering since mid-April in a clinic in Rio De Janeiro and his return is good news as just in March, he had believed his recovery would take 15 months.

Eduardo suffered a compound fracture of the left leg following a tackle from Birmingham defender Martin Taylor at St Andrews in February.

"I am returning to Europe from Brazil at the beginning of August, perhaps even the end of July," Da Silva told Sportske Novosti. "Doctors tell me by then I will be fully recovered and able to play football again. I hope so too.

"I'm feeling well and my rehabilitation is going better than I would ever have hoped."

Croatia are in Group B of the June 7 to 29 Euro 2008 finals and will face Austria on June 8, Germany on June 12 and Poland four days later.

The recent absence of Eduardo, who has scored 13 goals in 18 matches for his country, has been a huge disappointment for coach Slaven Bilic. His replacement in the meantime has been 28-year-old Dortmund striker Mladen Petric.

A modest Eduardo had faith in his colleagues at the 16-nation tournament in Austria and Switzerland.

"I think the boys will play very well without me," Da Silva said. "They'll get through the group and, after that, we'll have to wait and see."

Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva could make a shock pre-season return to training with the Gunners.

The Brazil-born Croatia international was initially expected to be out for between nine and 12 months after suffering an horrific broken leg in a challenge with Birmingham's Martin Taylor in February.

But physio Gary Lewin, who is leaving his role with the club to join the England team next month, admitted the forward was making excellent progress.

The former Dinamo Zagreb forward has been undergoing extensive rehabilitation work back in Brazil, and while no date has been set for his return, he is due back much sooner than expected.

Confident

Lewin told the club's official website: "Hopefully, he will be back doing training during pre-season.

"We are setting no timescales for Eduardo because we don't want to put him under pressure, but we are confident he will make a full recovery."

Lewin confirmed Czech Republic winger Tomas Rosicky was making excellent progress after a campaign blighted by injury which also kept him out of Euro 2008.

"Tomas has had surgery on his knee and we expect him to be flying by pre-season," Lewin added.

"We have had some real nasty injuries and I think that is part and parcel of the game.

"Look back at the years, we have been successful and we have had luck with injuries and not picked up many nasty injuries. Hopefully that will be the case next season."

Brilliant news! So please for him. He now just needs to get over the mental side of it and get back to his best.

Concerns about the race on 13 March follow unrest which has seen three people killed and 231 injured.

Ecclestone initially told BBC Sport on Friday that he had been told there were "no problems" in Bahrain.

But he later admitted the situation had deteriorated, adding: "We should wait and see what happens over the weekend."

Ecclestone added that a decision could be made next Tuesday or Wednesday
