Re: Tottenham Hotspur
Sky Sports News understands that Tottenham have emerged as the favourites to sign Giovani dos Santos.
The 19-year-old Mexican is currently on the books of Spanish giants Barcelona and is widely regarded as one of the hottest properties in European football.
He has been forced to wait his turn at Camp Nou, but has been tipped for the top since bursting onto the scene at the U17 World Cup back in 2005.
The Catalan club had hoped to see the youngster become the natural heir to Ronaldinho's crown, though he is yet to dominate the senior game in the same manner as he did at youth level.
Dos Santos made 28 Primera Division appearances for Barca last season, and scored a hat-trick in the last day of the season during a 5-3 victory at Murcia.
He has five full caps for Mexico despite qualifying to play for Brazil through his father, himself a former footballer, Zizinho.
His failure to hold down a regular first-team spot under Frank Rijkaard during the 2007/08 season alerted the attention of a host of Europe's top clubs, with Manchester City early contenders for his signature.
However, should the prodigiously talented teenager decide to leave Spain this summer it would appear that White Hart Lane is now is most likely destination, with Spurs expected to shell out around £11million in order to get their man.
i don't understand why barca would be willing to sell him if he's so good but f**k it, worth a squirt..

Ye. He was supposed to be a great player and stuff but Barca aren't exactly begging for this guy to stay. I do hope for the Premier League's sake he turns out to be immense.
Re: Tottenham Hotspur
maybe he took that whole 'next ronaldinho' thing way to literal, and went out clubbing every single night.. hopefully Ramos can control the lil guy..

Sevilla star poised for White Hart Lane move
Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be on the verge of signing Diego Capel from Sevilla after agreeing terms with the player and meeting his buy-out clause.
The North London club are poised to confirm a deal to bring the left-sided starlet to White Hart Lane having met the 15million euros (£12m) asking price, according to Diario de Sevilla.
A deal may have been wrapped up by now had Tottenham not requested that the two clubs split the resulting tax bill, which totals almost 2.5m euros.
Sevilla were desperate for Capel to sign a new deal that would see his buy-out clause increase dramatically, but disagreements between the player's agents and club president José Maria del Nido prevented talks from taking place.
Four-year deal
One of Capel's representatives is Rene Ramos, brother of Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, and he along with Pedro Bravo could push through the deal that would see their client triple his current salary in the Premier League.
Tottenham are believed to have agreed a four-year deal with the 20-year-old and he is keen to work with Spurs boss Juande Ramos once again after rising to prominence under him in Spain.
Capel's buy-out clause before he had played 40 league games for the club was 12m euros and that was when the Premier League outfit first made contact and put forward their contract proposal to Ramos and Bravo.

Everton and Tottenham today have both been credited with an interest in Valencias right winger Joaquin. The former Real Betis midfielder has endured a difficult season at the Estadio Mestalla as his side struggled to maintain their La Liga status.
Joaquin was touted as a potential star of the future whilst playing for his hometown club Real Betis, with whom he made his breakthrough aged just 19 back in the 2000/01 season for the player now aged 26. 6 seasons followed at Real Betis and he was frequently linked with a move to both Barcelona and Real Madrid but due to the huge transfer fee demanded by Betis a move failed to materialise.
It wasnt until 2006/07 after the World Cup that Joaquin finally moved on when after years of under achievement at Betis, despite Joaquins efforts, they were obliged to sell the player on. Valencia eventually snapped the player up for a fee believed to be in the region of £15 million.
Joaquins first season at Valencia was reasonable and he managed 5 goals in his 35 games keeping the more experienced Angulo on the sidelines. However, this season has been less satisfactory as Valencia collectively have struggled.
After failing to make the Champions League, Valencia will have to cut back and moving on one or two of their fringe players will help them achieve this. Joaquin could be one of the players to head for the exit as a result of his high wages. Although he played 40 La Liga games scoring 3 goals as well as a further 5 in the Champions League, Joaquins poor form has cost him a place at Euro 2008 for Spain.
Everton have been looking for wingers in the transfer window and have frequently opted for Arteta on the right side although the Spaniard is usually a central player. After the failure of Andy van der Meyde since his transfer from Inter Milan, Everton will be keen not to repeat that so will be cautious to spend too much on a player who is well known for his inconsistency,
Spurs boss Juande Ramos is familiar with the player after his spell at Betis rivals Sevilla. Spurs already have Aaron Lennon for the right side but increasing competition for the places within the squad has been made a priority.
However, both Tottenham and Everton may lose out in the race for the players signature to AS Roma. The Italian side have been heavily linked with several Spanish based players as they looked to improve on their options for next season. The recent Italian Cup winners have already been linked with Dani Guiza from Real Mallorca and after the disappointing season from Ludovic Giuly on the right wing may look to Joaquin for 2008/09.

Spurs linked with new Brazilian wonderkid

Just hours after news emerged of a new, hitherto undiscovered tribe living on the borders of Brazil and Peru, Spurs' sporting director Damien Comolli announced that the club were in talks to sign one of its 16 year-old members on a five-year deal.
"We know he has the talent, but we also know he is only 16, so we will not rush him," said Comoli this morning.
"He will have time to develop and will be working within a very talented development squad."
Obviously the lad in question has no concept of modern, civilised society - so he shouldn't have any trouble adjusting to conditions in North London.
That's if he doesn't turn Spurs down for a club on the continent first, of course.
Re: Tottenham Hotspur
ha jokes!! north london is like a jungle though.. tottenham is safer than islington though!
and even if he is a spaniard, i'll take Joaquin.. he's a beast on pro evo

Tottenham join hunt for Ramsey

Spurs still harbour hopes of landing Cardiff young star Aaron Ramsey after they rejected two bids from Arsenal and Liverpool.
The departure of the 17-year-old appears to be a forgone conclusion this summer but Cardiff are holding out for the best possible deal and with so many interested parties, including Manchester United and Everton they are in a position to pick and choose.
Spurs could nip in at the front of the queue if they were to make a straight cash offer as, like Arsenal, the bulk of the money on offer from Liverpool appears to be based on an appearances.
Cardiff want a deal which gives them the most cash upfront before they are persuaded to allow the player to leave.
He made 21 appearances for Cardiff last season, and has just featured at international level after Wales manager John Toshack brought him into the senior squad for this week's friendlies in Iceland and Holland.

Tottenham close on Barca starlet
Giovani Dos Santos is on the verge of completing a move from Barcelona to Tottenham Hotspur after a basic agreement was reached between all three parties.
The 19-year-old Mexico international could join the Premier League side as early as Monday according to Sport after Barca accepted an 8million euros (£6.2million) bid.
That fee may rise to 11million euros (£8.6million) depending on both Dos Santos and Tottenham meeting specified targets during his four-year stay at White Hart Lane.
Deal close
Dos Santos's father, Zizinho, admitted that his son is proud and excited by the thought of moving to such a prestigious club as he told Mexican daily paper, Record, that a deal was in the offing.
"Nothing has been finalised," he said. "But it is an honour that a club as important as Tottenham want to sign Giovani, but nothing can be said officially yet.
"The ambitious project that Tottenham have has excited Giovani and he just wants to go there and help the team in any way he can.
"It is obvious that leaving Barcelona is a risky decision, but with his qualities it appears that it could be the best option for him."
Spurs boss Juande Ramos was keen to land the starlet because he strongly believes that his pace, ability to break into the area and shooting ability make him perfect for the English game.
Although a deal has not been finalised, Dos Santos' agent, Pini Zahavi, and Barca's sporting vice-president, Marc Ingla, believe that there will be few problems in reaching an agreement.
Throughout the negotiations, Dos Santos - who is also wanted by Manchester City - has been undergoing treatment to recover from a an operation that he had on his ankle in the middle of May and is set to keep him out of action for another four weeks.
Only 8million Euros....that is a steal.

I wouldn't say it's a steal. It will be a steal if he becomes a top player in the Prem. He's got a big reputation, supposed to be a great young prospect so let's see if he lives up to it.
Spurs prepare bumper Bentley deal
teamtalk.com wrote:Spurs prepare bumper Bentley deal
Spurs are reportedly ready to hijack Liverpool's bid to sign David Bentley by offering Blackburn two players and £7million for the England ace.
Tottenham boss Juande Ramos is ready to overhaul his White Hart Lane squad this summer in a bid to gatecrash the Big Four's Premier League party.
Ramos sees Bentley as a vital cog in his plans for the Londoners, and according to The People is ready to offer Rovers a deal which would see Hossam Ghaly, Aaron Lennon and £7million heading to Ewood Park.
Rovers boss Mark Hughes, whose future at Ewood is uncertain due to reported interest from managerless Chelsea, may be tempted by the offer as Lennon would fill Bentley's place on the right flank, and Ghaly would provide back-up for veteran central midfielder Tugay.
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has Bentley and his England colleague Gareth Barry high on his summer shopping list - but is more likely to offer just straight cash for the Rovers winger.
Spurs, meanwhile, will reportedly turn to Diego Milito if they fail to hang on to Dimitar Berbatov, who wants to play in the Champions League next season.

6 million quid for a player who potentially could be world class, in this day in age, is in my book a steal. If he turns out to be wank, they lose 6 million quid, that's pretty much f**k all for premiership clubs of Spurs calibre.

6 Million is a lot to any club below the top 4. It's basically what im trying to say. He could be immense, he's been hyped up to be unreal we'll see if he lives up to it. I hope he does for the sake of the prem obviously. Can't wait to see the kid in action.
Re: Tottenham Hotspur
Not really though. Think how much money they get from TV rights and what not. Plus Modric was bought for 10 million, pfffft Bent was bought for 16 fucking million haha, Bale was like 11 million. Spurs do have money..
I still think for 6 million that is not a bad deal, and at the end of the day it wont hurt them.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur
Bent was overpriced and in my opinion so was Bale. TV Rights doesn't cover the cost of salaries though, if it was United then sure it probably would because they get more games shown every week and have CL games aswell.
Only time will tell to see if this deal was a good one or not.
