---------------------------------------------------------

Just stating that Scolari isnt too happy with the fact that Real Madrid refused to dismiss Pepe from a trip that he will be goin on with Real Madrid to Saudi Arabia, because he'd be missing acouple of training dates with Portugal's Seleccao squad. thumbs down

Just read that article before. I find it crazy how Real Madrid have not allowed Pepe to leave. It's a joke... What's he gnna do in this tour, play a few poor quality games and maybe even pick up a knock.

I just hope he can get through it and join up with the sqaud in no time, ready for the Euro.

Pepe and Carvalho at CB's....Possibly the portuguese version of Vida and Rio...whistle

Yeh man...Miguel and Bosingwa full back and Pepe with Carvalho in the centre. That is a dream defence for any nation. It all depends on how Felipao can manage this sqaud though.

Group A News Empty Petit ready for retirement

Post by DeJesus5 Fri May 23, 2008 8:54 pm

uefa.com wrote:
Petit ready for retirement

Portugal's Petit said he expects to retire from international football after UEFA EURO 2008™ as injuries take their toll on the 31-year-old SL Benfica midfielder.

Time to go
Petit made the announcement at a media conference in Viseu, where Luiz Felipe Scolari's team are preparing for the finals. He said: "We have players with a great future ahead of them in the Portugal midfield, so I think it's time ... this will probably be my last [UEFA] European Championship and my last matches for my country."

Experienced campaigner
If Petit keeps his word, he will be bowing out at his fourth major tournament, having played at the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups as well as at UEFA EURO 2004™. Although the former Boavista FC man featured seven times in qualifying for Austria and Switzerland – taking his tally to 53 caps and four goals – he has struggled with knee and thigh injuries this season. His return of 17 Liga appearances for Benfica is the poorest of his nine-year top-flight career. "I have had some complicated injuries but I will be back to my best at the EURO," he vowed.

What you lot think about the tactic that scolari might use?

a 433 or a 442.

I'm more incline on a 442.

I wouldn't mind a 4-4-2 but we just don't have the striker's unless we play Ronaldo in the Striker role.

I would mind this sort of lineup:

------------------Quim-------------------
Bosingwa-Pepe-Carvalho(c)-Ribeiro
-----------Veloso------Deco-------------
Quaresma------------------------Simao
-------------Ronaldo---------------------
-----------------------Almeida-----------

Ronaldo having a free role to roam around and pick up the ball.

^i agree, thats definitly the lineup id like to see

i would really like us to use Ronaldo as support striker. Ronaldo or Simao, but Ronaldo has a gifted eye on where to put the ball as we all know. Besides, if we were to use Ronaldo as support striker then id like to see Quaresma and Simao on the wings, like you have there exactly

i totally agree with that starting 11, i wouldnt change anything

Although...knowing Scolari Nuno Gomes and Petit will most likely be starting

Sad man, Petit has been so injury-prone throughout this season. he's probably goin to get injured in out first game against Turkey..he'll be out for the whole tournament and we'll be short a midfielder.
I've always liked Petit, but sayin this respectfully, he didnt have a really good season with Benfica and picked up alot of injuries ...instead of Petit, i myself would've prefered callin up Maniche or even Tiago.

Petit is quite simply finished now. The injuries this season really done him over and he just aint good enough for Benfica let alone Portugal. Hopefully Scolari notices that, and hopefully he notices how s**t Nuno Gomes actually is.

I would prefer Moutinho instead of Quaresma.

Playing like we played so many times when we had Figo.

------------------Quim-------------------
Bosingwa-Pepe-Carvalho(c)-Paulo Ferreira
-----------Veloso------Moutinho--------
---Deco------------------------Simao---
-------------Ronaldo---------------------
-----------------------Almeida-----------

this would be my prefered lineup. Or also swap Moutinho for Meireles.

Naaa man you can't have Deco as a RW why would we play someone out of position when its totally unnessesary when we have 4 Amazing wingers all there wanting that position Simao,Nani,Quaresma and Ronaldo if Ronaldo takes a free role / support striker then totally either have Nani or Quaresma along side Simao. Also your Defence is good I wouldnt mind seeing MOutinho but he isnt ready to be starting for this team yet having Veloso is 1 thing but both not ready for yet Moutinho would have to be the core and he is a great player but not ready to be a regular start ... also PF is a good sub and quality to have but imo Miguel and Bosingwa should start if not Miguel then Ribeiro he is naturally left footed and quick.

You probably dind't notice. But after EURO 04 at up until the wolrd cup Portugal played very often in that manner.

When defending: a 451

...............GK..............
.........CB.......CB.........
RB..........................LB

............DMF...............
....AMF.............CMF....
WG........................WG

.............CF.................

When Attacking: 442
...............GK..............
.........CB.......CB.........
RB..........................LB

............DMF..............
...................CMF.......
...AMF.............AMF/WG ------ Figo and Deco would roam the midfield.

........RONALDO.......
..........PAULETA......

So Deco is not a winger in that formation. The reason I put Simão is because he's experienced enough to play in the middle and having the capability to play on the wing.

After the World Cup we never again played in this manner. Actually there was one game where Scolari tried to play in that manner, but dind't had the players. Deco wasn't around, no Figo, since he retired, no Maniche, so it didn't worked.
It was a 442 disquised as a 433 because Ronaldo being support striker for Pauleta, he would also get out of the box and try to cross into the goal area.

About the defence. Ribeiro is only there cause he is left footed. I don't think he as enough quality to play for Portugal. and he lacks experience. Since Bosingwa will surelly be given permission to go up in the field he will be almost like a winger with Carvalho, Pepe, P.Ferreira staying behind.

I agree about Ribeiro, he's only there becuase he is naturally left footed. I'd still rather have Miguel at LB instead of him anyways.

I can't wait to see what Scolari uses as his formation and team in the first game. Will be very interesting.

Group A News Empty Altintop set to miss Euro

Post by DeJesus5 Sun Jun 01, 2008 2:18 am

uefa.com wrote:Altintop doubtful for EURO

Turkey midfielder Hamit Altintop suffered a muscle injury in training on Friday and could miss the UEFA EURO 2008 finals, his club Bayern Munich said on Saturday.

Altintop only made his comeback last Sunday in a friendly against Uruguay after a two-month layoff due to a broken bone in his foot, the Bundesliga club said in a statement on its Web site (www.fcbayern.de).

The 25-year-old was examined by the Bayern doctor and could miss Turkey's opening Group A match against Portugal in Geneva next Saturday, the statement said. Co-hosts Switzerland and the Czech Republic make up the group.

Big blow for Turkey. Although great for Portugal whistle

LESÃO NO PULSO COMPROMETE PARTICIPAÇÃO NO EURO

Sad

So we now know who will be our starting keeper for the Euro's...I actually hate Ricardo now. Such a lucky c**t! His position in the team was very doubtful after a quality season from Quim and now this happens. Now all of us Portugal fans have to hope the 'Frangista' does well.

who are our backup keepers anyway? Rui Patricio and _______.... Quim is out now, do we get to callup 1 extra gk or is that against the rules now that Euros are just about to start?? Sad

True test lies ahead, says Ronaldo

Group A News 714464_w2

Portugal may have made a perfect start to UEFA EURO 2008™, qualifying for the quarter-finals as Group A winners with a match to spare, yet Cristiano Ronaldo knows things are about to get considerably tougher for Luiz Felipe Scolari's high-fliers.
'More difficult'
Turkey were beaten 2-0 in Portugal's opening fixture in Switzerland before the Manchester United FC winger shone in a 3-1 victory against the Czech Republic which earned the 2004 finalists a last-eight meeting with the runners-up from Group B (currently Germany) in Basel next Thursday. "I'm certain that game after game, it's going to be progressively more difficult," Ronaldo told euro2008.com. "We have to be prepared for this. There have already been surprises. Germany were the favourites against Croatia and Croatia still won."

'Motivation'
The 23-year-old winger confirmed Scolari will seize the opportunity to rest a number of key men when Portugal bring the section to a close on Sunday against a Switzerland side determined to bow out on a high after narrowly losing their opening fixtures on home soil. Starting players or reserves, however, Ronaldo insists the match will not be taken lightly. "Our motivation remains the same," he said. "The players who are coming in are going to give their best as they will want to show Mr Scolari they want to be in the first eleven. I think it's going to be a good game because the majority of the players who will play haven't played yet."

looks like Scolari will rest some of our star players in our game against Swiss tomorrow. I think we should only switch acouple of players, i dont think switching the whole team like some people think on other forums is a good idea.

Perhaps a start 11 i'd like to see:

----------------------Ricardo-------------------------
Boswinga---------Pepe------Alves-------------Ferreira <------ or Miguel?
-------------Petit--------------Moutinho--------------
----------------------Simao---------------------------
--Nani------------------------------------Quaresma---
-------------------Nuno Gomes-----------------------

First id like to say that id like to see us rest Deco and Carvalho in this game. They've been having badluck with injuries all season so i just thought we could play it safe by lettin them rest one game before the more difficult opponents come our way. Pepe and Alves should have great chemistry anyway, and Simao is no stranger to the CAM position anyway..especially if he's got Moutinho right behind him to help create some extra creativity.
And I think Scolari will rest Ronaldo for sure.
